Small Hands, Big Hearts
One of the most rewarding parts of San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity’s Youth Volunteer Program is watching the next generation discover the joy of giving back. Through simple acts of kindness, young people are learning that they have the power to make a real difference in their community.
Recently, Liam (8) and Lucas (6) put that lesson into action by using their own allowance to create a welcome home basket filled with household and kitchen essentials for a Habitat homeowner. Their thoughtful gift was more than a basket of supplies—it was a heartfelt reminder that generosity comes in all sizes.
As their mom, Grace, shared, “Volunteering does not have to feel complicated or intimidating. Even small acts of kindness can make a real difference. It’s a great way for kids to learn that they are never too young to help their community.”
We couldn’t agree more.
At SGV Habitat, we believe meaningful service opportunities should be available for every age. Whether it’s creating welcome home baskets, writing thank-you cards, assembling care packages, or organizing a neighborhood fundraiser, every project helps build stronger communities while teaching children the value of compassion, generosity, and service.
Liam and Lucas remind us that there’s no age requirement for making a positive impact—and that today’s young volunteers are tomorrow’s community leaders.
