Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that falls after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  It was originally created to offer an alternative to traditional commercial gift giving.  Most of us love gifts because they make us feel good—both giving and receiving.

In the season of gift giving, why not host an alternative gift giving campaign.  The process is simple when you use our fundraising page located on the SGV Habitat website.  It is easy to create and you can direct your friends, family, co-workers and community directly to the site.  Go to https://sgvhabitat.org/fundraise/  for ideas and follow the steps to create your page.

This year a generous Builders’ Club member is matching all donations! ( up to $10,000).

Homeownership is Key to California's Future

The Problem

Renters need to earn 2.5 times minimum wage to afford the average asking rent in Los Angeles County

Since 2005, homeownership has decreased 9.3%

In LA County 78% of extremely low-income households are paying more than half of their income on housing costs

Your Impact is the Solution

Since our founding in 1990, all families who have completed our homeownership program have had a 100% success rate with zero foreclosures or defaults! Charity Navigator has ranked us in the top 1% of non-profits – with 96% of all donations going to build and repair more homes.

See Why Housing Matters

The Programs You Make Possible

Affordable Homeownership
Habitat homebuyers help build their homes alongside community volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. All household members 18 years and older are required to participate in some form of “sweat equity” – our homebuyers complete 250 hours per head of household. This helps them build their future home and take homebuyer education courses to prepare them for success. As a result, our homebuyers thrive in their homes with a total foreclosure rate of 0% since our inception.

Affordable Home Repair
Seniors, veterans and other low-income homeowners find financial relief and stability through our low-cost, nonprofit home repair program. The repairs ensure the safety, security and sustainability of our clients’ homes.
