San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity Dedicates Day to Give Back
On May 27, the SGV Habitat team stepped away from their usual routines and rolled up their sleeves for All Staff Build Day! Staff members from every department and all levels of the organization joined forces at SGV Habitat construction sites and at the Pasadena ReStore to give back through hands-on volunteer work.
Throughout the day, employees shared plenty of laughs, worked together on meaningful projects, and strengthened connections while supporting the families and neighborhoods at the heart of our mission. From framing walls and sorting supplies to pitching in wherever help was needed, every team member contributed to the day’s success.
For staff members volunteering at the Pasadena ReStore, the experience offered a new perspective on the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything moving.
“Volunteering at the ReStore was honestly a really good experience for me,” shared Gema. “I liked being able to help in a more hands-on way and just jump in wherever needed. Whether I was loading furniture into people’s cars, moving boxes around, cleaning, or debranding items, it felt good being useful and helping things run smoother. It also gave me a different perspective on the work that goes on behind the scenes and made me appreciate the teamwork it takes to keep everything moving. I was hoping that employees from Construction would come out and volunteer at the ReStore — I think it helps to better understand another side of the organization.”
Meanwhile, staff out on the build sites gained firsthand experience working alongside SGV Habitat’s construction crews and volunteers.
“Had such a great time working alongside our construction crew,” said Adrian. “So appreciative of the work they put in every single day!”
Victoria shared, “Haydee is a great teacher and made sure our fingers were protected and we had our gear on. It was great getting to work with Marta and Emma outside of the Pasadena ReStore and to talk with coworkers that I don’t talk to often. Getting to work on-site let me appreciate the hard work our construction crew does every week and gives firsthand knowledge of the volunteer experience.”
“It was nice to get out of the office and learn a thing or two about construction. I enjoyed working alongside Ashley and Stephen! P.S. I know how to use a saw now,” shared Lupita.
Jenna echoed that appreciation, adding, “I had such a great time learning from our helpful and patient construction staff. I really appreciate the work they do every day with our volunteers!”
More than just a day of service, All Staff Build Day was an opportunity for staff to experience what our volunteers do every day, build stronger relationships, make unforgettable memories, and celebrate the shared purpose that brings us together. By the time the day wrapped up, staff headed home with sore muscles, happy smiles, and countless stories to tell.
