SGV Habitat CEO Bryan Wong steps into a statewide leadership role, bringing local experience, collaboration and lessons from the San Gabriel Valley to Habitat affiliates across California.
In September of this year, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity strengthened its connections with local government leaders, community partners and civic organizations through its participation in the Cal Cities Expo in Anaheim, an important gathering that brings together municipal leaders and professionals from across California.
Representing SGV Habitat at the event was Faith Mellinger, Senior Director of Communications and Operations, who connected with leaders and representatives from cities throughout the San Gabriel Valley and beyond.
For SGV Habitat, participation in events like Cal Cities Expo is about much more than visibility. It creates opportunities to further strengthen our relationships with public officials and community leaders who play an important role in shaping housing, development and community priorities throughout the region.

With SGV Habitat’s footprint spanning 31 communities across the San Gabriel Valley, maintaining strong connections with leaders in each district is essential. Conversations at the Expo provided opportunities to strengthen existing partnerships while also opening doors to new collaborations with cities and organizations that share a commitment to expanding access to affordable homeownership.
These relationships are particularly important as SGV Habitat continues to expand its work in response to the region’s housing needs and the ongoing recovery from the Eaton Fire. Successful housing initiatives often require collaboration among nonprofits, municipalities, businesses, community organizations and residents. Building those connections before a project begins can help create a stronger foundation for future partnerships.
The Expo also provided an opportunity for SGV Habitat to share more about its mission, programs and evolving role in addressing housing challenges across the San Gabriel Valley. By engaging directly with civic leaders, the organization can better understand the priorities and needs of individual communities while identifying opportunities where Habitat’s resources and expertise can complement local efforts.
For SGV Habitat, attending Cal Cities Expo represents an investment in relationships—and relationships are at the heart of successful community development. By continuing to show up, listen and collaborate, SGV Habitat is expanding its network of partners and strengthening its ability to bring people together around solutions that create affordable homes, stronger neighborhoods and greater opportunities for families throughout the San Gabriel Valley and beyond.
