On November 3rd, Californians will vote on Proposition 1, the Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026. The $11.25 billion bond measure provides funding for affordable rental housing, homeownership programs, and veterans’ housing assistance, including resources for the CalHome Program. For San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity and our partners, the measure represents an important moment to raise awareness about the need for more affordable homeownership opportunities throughout California.
The final legislation includes $600 million designated for CalHome, which supports programs that help lower-income Californians access and preserve homeownership. If approved by voters, the bond would provide additional state resources for affordable housing programs serving Californians, including veterans, seniors, people with disabilities and working families. For communities like ours, where the need for affordable homeownership continues to grow, understanding what Proposition 1 could mean for housing production and preservation is an important part of the conversation.
