Woodbury University:
The Woodbury University Habitat for Humanity Chapter had an incredible experience during their Build Day with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity! It was a truly enriching opportunity that allowed many members to connect with the real-world impact of architecture, beyond what they typically encounter in the studio.
Their chapter president, Armen said “As architecture students, most of our time is spent in the studio working with digital tools, rarely stepping onto construction sites. However, being able to physically build something with our own hands gave us a profound appreciation for the complexities and challenges of construction. The experience reinforced the demanding nature of the industry and, more importantly, highlighted the responsibility future architects have to design with practicality, efficiency, and constructability in mind.“
Throughout the day, Woodbury students helped dig a trench for the sewer line, others assisted with finish carpentry, and a group worked on drywall finishing. Each task, big or small, contributed to the greater vision of creating affordable housing and deepened their understanding of the hard work that goes into making these projects a reality. They left the site feeling inspired and with a renewed sense of purpose in their studies and future careers as architects!
Woodbury University gives special thanks to SGV Habitat for providing this invaluable hands-on experience. The Woodbury University Habitat for Humanity Chapter is looking forward to future opportunities to make a tangible impact in their community.
JPL Black Excellence Strategic Team (BEST)
The JPL Black Excellence Strategic Team had an incredible experience volunteering with Habitat for Humanity this past weekend. The partnership started through social media messaging, and resulted in a build day. From the moment they arrived, they were welcomed with friendly faces and a warm atmosphere. Learning more about the organization’s mission further fueled their excitement for the work ahead.
The site leaders provided hands-on guidance, teaching the team how to properly use tools to break down walls, scrape paint, and dispose of waste—all while making valuable progress on the homes. It was a truly fun, fulfilling, and impactful experience for everyone involved!
Azusa Pacific University
A dedicated group from APU volunteered their time and energy to make a positive impact at the Pasadena ReStore. The group jumped in to help with a variety of tasks, including cleaning bathrooms, breaking down cardboard and styrofoam, and organizing items for sale. Their support didn’t stop there—they also assisted customers at the cash register, helped carry purchases to customers’ cars with a smile, and ensured the sales floor was beautifully arranged.
The team played a key role in getting new items ready for sale by taking photos for the website and carefully placing them on the sales floor for shoppers to explore. Their attention to detail was evident as they cleaned furniture and swept both inside and outside the store, creating a welcoming and pleasant shopping experience.
Their hard work and positive attitudes made a tremendous difference, and we’re truly grateful for their commitment to helping our community thrive. Thank you, APU volunteers, for your incredible support and teamwork!

Last Wednesday, the organization sent three volunteers to lend a hand at the Pasadena ReStore, and they had wonderful things to say about their experience. Their support made a meaningful impact, and their enthusiasm was truly appreciated.
Ricardo Burgos: “I felt a very good experience volunteering at the ReStore … that I was helping out on few things that was good for me. I’ve been doing team-working and communication while doing some tasks that was helpful for me. So, I really had a great experience volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity that it was worth it.“
Jalen Marquez: “Working on the store was great. We did organized and stock clothes for donation. I also did stocking like at Grocery Outlet to make them see more. The break room was different because there’s no fridge. Going to that place help me with my stocking after the Eaton fire closed everything.“

On Saturday, February 22, UC Irvine’s Engineers Without Borders (EWB) made a meaningful impact in the El Sereno community, partnering with SGV Habitat for Humanity. The volunteers signed up with Habitat to assist those affected by recent fires in LA.
EWB members split into two teams: demolition and construction. The demolition team removed outdated elements, such as a door and other unusable parts of the house. Meanwhile, the construction team focused on installing a new floor in one of the bedrooms, helping transform the space into a welcoming home.
“Our members enjoyed working with power tools and using our engineering skills for a meaningful project,” shared an EWB volunteer. “We hope to participate in another Habitat build soon.”These dedicated volunteers bring SGV Habitat one step closer to providing affordable housing to families in need, one home at a time.
