Mary has lived in her mobile home in Monrovia for 22 years. When she retired as a Human Resource Manager many years ago, she wanted the security of a home in her retirement years.
Over time, there were aspects of the home that made it more difficult for Mary to feel safe in her own home. At age 82, the tub/shower combination in her bathroom became an issue, making it more difficult for Mary to take a shower without the threat of falling.
The tub to shower conversion is one of several projects the Home Preservation team addressed. In addition, the team reinforced the railing to the steps leading to her home, leveled her mobile home, and fixed a leak in her water heater, a problem that was found during the home inspection.
“I was so appreciative that Habitat did an inspection,” Mary said. “I did not know I had a leak. Had they not found the leak, the damage would have been tremendous.”
Mary discovered SGV Habitat’s Home Preservation Program through a friend – another mobile home owner who also had repairs done. With less stress from worrying about the cost of repairs, Mary can enjoy spending quality time with her six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Thanks to generous supporters three home repairs were done for mobile home owners in Mary’s neighborhood.
“The home preservation program was heaven sent,” Mary said with tremendous gratitude. “It really helps people, and it is a worthwhile program for people who are able to invest their time and money.”
