On December 6th and 7th, in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity hosted a special “Hammer for Heroes” build event in El Sereno honoring veterans in the community for their contributions to this country. The event not only brought people together but served to recognize the sacrifices made by our nation’s heroes and raise awareness about the issues that affect them and many others, such as access to affordable housing. During this build, three homes in El Sereno underwent repairs. We expect the repairs for all three houses to be completed by January 2025.
A special thanks to our generous sponsors, Northrop Grumman and James Hardie, for their support in making this event possible. Their commitment to veterans and the community helped make this impactful event a reality.
To kick off the event, CEO of SGV Habitat, Bryan Wong, greeted a crowd that included community volunteers, business leaders, and others, with a shared vision about the importance of working together to build strength and stability across San Gabriel Valley and ensure that everyone has access to affordable housing.
Not only did this event attract a crowed eager to do their part to give back, it also drew local press attention from across Los Angeles. Camera crews from FOX 11, ABC 7, and CBS were on site to share the work being done with their audiences across the Southland. Broadcast coverage for the “Hammers for Heroes” event ran over the weekend and will also be aired as part of a special veteran series in the new year.
SGV Habitat would not be able to assist veterans and others in your community without your help. The unwavering commitment and support that SGV Habitat garners from donors and volunteer communities empowers everyone to continue the mission and create meaningful, lasting change in the communities in San Gabriel Valley. SGV Habitat couldn’t do it without you!
